Description
This workshop is designed to provide comprehensive insights and best practices for effectively communicating the impact of school bond measures to the community. Utilizing New Haven Unified School District’s “Investing in Academic Excellence Campaign” as a case study, participants will explore innovative communication strategies, engagement techniques, and storytelling methods to build support, understanding, and enthusiasm for school bond initiatives.
About the Presenters:
Heather McGowan has 25 years of experience executing successful communications and marketing strategies for elected officials, education, and non-profit organizations. With a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), Heather is passionate about advancing public education through proactive, creative, and strategic marketing and communications. She has served as a K-12 school district Public Information Officer, and is a member of the California School Public Relations Association and the National School Public Relations Association. Her awards include CalSPRA’s Excellence in Communications Award and the Center for Digital Education’s Excellence in Digital Communications award. Heather resides in Folsom with her husband, Chad, a high school teacher, and her three children.
Rebecca Leroux is a communication strategist with over 18 years of experience in video production, specializing in the educational sector since 2012. As the founder of B43Productions, she has led her company to become a trusted partner for educational institutions, non-profits, and allied organizations, delivering impactful visual narratives that drive community engagement.
Rebecca’s expertise extends to supporting school bond initiatives, having successfully collaborated with multiple school districts to craft compelling campaigns that resonate with voters and build community trust. Her work in video and photography has been crucial in promoting educational programs, celebrating achievements, and supporting teacher and staff recruitment. Additionally, her skills in live streaming and pre-recorded events allow her clients to celebrate key milestones effectively.
B43Productions has earned numerous awards for excellence in visual storytelling, reflecting Rebecca’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and equity. Beyond her professional life, Rebecca is married to Christopher, an active duty Air Force member nearing retirement, and together they are excited for the new chapter ahead with their two-year-old son, Owen.
