August 1, 2025 Board Brief

CalSPRA's executive and extended board recently reviewed several key initiatives at their monthly meetings, highlighting a successful APR program, new regional leadership, and plans for upcoming events. For additional information about any of the items below, please reach out to admin@calspra.org.

Extended Board Leader Reports

The APR pathway cohort led by Josué Reyna, APR concluded with positive feedback, with a significant number of individuals receiving personalized study plans and one person already approved for an accreditation panel. 

The Communication Team led by Kelli Twomey, APR and Veronica Rabang, is promoting the 2026 sponsorship cycle early and a fun fact social media campaign recently launched. 

Additionally, there are two fall regional events coming up on September 4 (CapHills and Nor Cal, San Diego/Imperial). The board approved new regional boundaries and there are three new regional leaders. A leader orientation will be provided to ensure a smooth transition.

Executive Board Leader Reports

The board also discussed several upcoming projects, financial updates, and potential partnerships. The treasurer's report showed healthy finances with growth in the money market account.

book club initiative in partnership with Apptegy and School CEO is slated to begin in October, and the board is seeking volunteers to review a White Paper outlining standards for school communications roles across California.

Discussions around partnerships and conference planning were also a major focus. Executive Director Trinette Marquis facilitated two recent SSDA focus groups on crisis communication and financial transparency that will contribute to a guide for new superintendents.The CalSPRA Executive Team will be analyzing these for application to CalSPRA.

For the 2026 Conference, the keynote speaker contract has been signed, and ideas for performances, a pre-session day golf event, and dedicated sessions for different groups (EAs, new members, etc.) were discussed. The board is also adjusting the timing for both the Call for Presenters and the Awards, launching them two weeks earlier this year to avoid holiday conflicts and to create a brief overlap period for submissions.
