Executive Director, Strategy and Communications
About the Role
The Executive Director, Strategy & Communications works directly with the San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools and other senior San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) leaders to ensure the execution and alignment of key strategic initiatives.
The Executive Director acts as a trusted advisor to the Superintendent and supports the furthering of SMCOE’s goals and objectives relative to the Superintendent’s vision. The Executive Director also leads the Communications Department where they plan and implement comprehensive public affairs, community relations, marketing, outreach, and media relations initiatives aligned with the organization’s strategic plan.
Sample Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Superintendent and executive team to drive key initiatives and strategic priorities
- Direct cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment across departments to carry out goals and objectives of SMCOE’s strategic plan
- Lead the strategic development, implementation, and evaluation of SMCOE’s communications, marketing, and community relations programs
- Build and support relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, civic and community leaders, and members of the media with the intent of fostering a collaborative and positive culture
- Manage crisis communication and act as a problem solver in high-pressure situations, providing solutions and handling complex challenges in real time
