Description

A statewide marketing campaign combined with a new, cross-district approach to collective bargaining has increased the visibility and intensity of collective bargaining in California school districts. As more LEAs face the threat of labor action or experience actual teacher strikes, communications professionals may find themselves challenged to effectively articulate the district's position in an unfavorable PR environment. This session offers strategies for responding to escalation in a way that respects the essential role of teachers and need for improved compensation and conditions, while also balancing the need for preserving student support, programmatic options, and long-term solvency and sustainability at the district level. 


About the Presenter: Troy Flint leads communications for the California School Boards Association (CSBA). CSBA represents nearly every school district and county office of education in the state of California and nearly 1,000 local educational agencies in total, providing legislative and legal advocacy, governance training, policy development, information, research and business services. Flint has 19 years of experience in education communications roles, both at the statewide policy and local school district levels, as well as a background in private sector public relations and print journalism.
